Scholarly
Project versus Thesis
As students enrolled in the t-MOT program you will
be completing a scholarly project. The scholarly
project involves the application of existing knowledge
to practical, real life problems. (The focus is
typically on clinical issues.) It involves a comprehensive
literature review with the development of a product
that will focus on resolving the issue. This is
in contrast to the thesis, where students add to
the body of knowledge by doing original research.
This would involve developing a problem or question
statement, comprehensive literature review, designing
the method to gather data, determining the approach
for statistical analysis, gathering data, analyzing
the data, etc. It would also entail completing an
online course on human subjects and institutional
review approval. The Occupational Therapy Department
has elected to have students enrolled in the t-MOT
program complete a scholarly project.
