Assistant Professor

E-Mail: cjanssen@medicine.nodak.edu

Education/Clinical Background:

I obtained my bachelor’s degree in 1990 and master’s degree in 2006 in occupational therapy from the University of North Dakota and am currently taking courses toward a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning, Higher Education. I have worked primarily in long term care for 16 years with additional experience in home health, pediatrics, industrial rehabilitation, hospitals, and outpatient services. I have been instructing occupational therapy courses at the University of North Dakota since 2001, starting as adjunct instructor and gradually moving to full time, assistant professor.

Teaching:

  • Gerontics
  • Medical Science
  • Physical Disabilities Practicum Seminar
  • Management, Group Leadership
  • Personal and Professional Development
  • Level One Fieldwork Coordination
  • Principles of Education

Research/Scholarly Interests:

I am most interested in all areas of wellness and finding ways that people can achieve a sense of well-being, despite physical, cognitive, or emotional limitations. I am intrigued by the manner in which occupational performance can enhance wellness. I am also interested in memory and learning in the brain and how they impact cognitive wellness. I have a special interest in the elderly population and would really like to see OTs become more involved in true prevention rather than strictly intervention that occurs after elderly have already become injured, ill, or impaired. This issue inspires an interest in community services.
